Photography in the Galapagos Islands
During the 2017 summer break I took a school trip to the Galapagos Islands. The islands are famed for their unique ecosystem and this is what I was initially attempting to capture in the photos. At first I was exclusively focusing on showing the animals in their natural habitat but during the trip my focus evolved. I found there to be an interesting dynamic between the ecosystem and the people who lived in it. In most places animals seem to be driven away by people and in the past this is how it was. Humans killed off many of the original species in the islands but thankfully this has changed. The animals and people there almost seem to have an understanding with each other. The people utilize small amounts of the natural resources and the animals then adapt to the new environment created by the people. This is most clearly shown in a picture of a sea lion basking on a bench near the beach. It shows how the animals have grown to appreciate some of the man made things and use it for themselves.
